“Cate Blanchett recently defended the right of straight actors to play LGBTQ characters on-screen, saying it’s something she’ll “fight to the death” for… and despite the growing feeling that queer characters should be played by queer actors, Blanchett doesn’t agree…”
“Straight actors are almost unanimously lauded for playing queer characters — 52 straight actors have been nominated for Oscars for playing LGBTQ characters — while openly queer actors find it hard to even be cast.”
she doesn’t say once that she “disagrees” with gay people playing gay people she’s literally just saying that straight people can relate to and play lgbt characters… like it’d be dope if more lgbt actors were getting work but idk what’s so wrong with a straight person wanting to empathetically portray a lgbt person and relate to their experiences?
sorry unrelated wishful thinking i know she’s married to a man but this just reads like she’s gay and closeted and wants to be able to play gay characters but doesn’t know why
